| Kinar strokes |

I have seen that some accompanists would play all strokes on the Kinar on the tabla even when playing the theka. A few of the Tabla players in Ragi jathas ( Sikh devotional music groups) seem to do that with extraodinary skill for quite a beautiful effect.Is there a name for the technique ? Are there any guidelines as to when and how it can be used ? And lastly, is it a valid exercise to practise as such to improve the crispness and intensity of one's kinar strokes ? |
