" Bharoso Dridh in Charnan Kero "

Composed by Surdas , sung by Pandit Jasraj , Addha taal .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA4NObBhfU4

~~~~~~~~~~~ Bihag ( info is provided in the video link )
One commentator is not at all satisfied with artwork used : :mrgreen:
Rendering is soulful . But web at cypher8888888 have wrongly placed irrelevant picture of Meera & Krishna instead of Surdasji & his Guru Shree Vallabhacharyaji in whose praise he composed this immortal Keertan eqating him with supreme God Shreenathji.To satisfy his doubting co-Keertankars,he composed this immortal Keertan in his final hours before his death some 500 years ago which is capable of being rendered in 12 more Ragas also
" Sone sonre jara insaan "
by Mohammed Rafi , Khemta taal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUB9hQR-Ia0
Seems to be a mixing of Charukeshi with Pilu . ( both Ga´s , both Dha´s )
From the thematic point of view it could be more of a moral or philosphical ( indirect )bhajan , then a " direct bhajan " = a bhajan directly aimed at Bhagavan/Ishvara/The supreme personality of Godhead , a Demigod or a Saint . ( mention of Ravana ? , mention of papi )
" Jai Raghunandan Jai Siya Ram "
Sung by Jagjit Singh , Bhajani taal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG6mWLCHJ_I
Seems to be in Bhatiyar .
One of the youtube-commentators says it could be Bhatiyar or Mishra Bhatiyar .
This song consists consists almost entirely of responsorial chants , so it could maybe be classified as a Dhun .
" Krishna Krishna kahiye "
by Bhimsen Joshi , Bhajani taal .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJLUxuBPJSs
I would say it is a mixing of Jogiya with Kalingada . One small part seems to dwelve into Lalit .
" Payo Ji Maine Ram Ratan Dhan Payo "
by Meerabai , sung by D. V. Paluskar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW6uLqE11Eo
I have seen people put Mishra Maand for this famous bhajan , but Parrikar puts it under the heading of Pahadi in his article about audav ragas like Bhupali , Deshakar etc . His authoritative statement about the component ragas :
A confluence of Pahadi, Kalyan and Mand is seen in this universally loved Meera bhajan by D.V. Paluskar: Rama ratana dhana payo.
I am glad to see such a statement from an expert , because normally such bahut serious rasikas don´t concern themselves so much with more easy sangeet :mrgreen: , what to speak of sorting out its ragas .
I have read elsewhere that since Meerabai is originally a Krishna Bhakt , she composed this bhajan for Him . But with the passing of the centuries people have edited the lyrics ( refrain ) to make it fit as a Raam bhajan . :roll:
This is obvious , since there are words indicating Lord Krishna : Giridhar etc.
Anyway it sounds good as a " mixed " bhajan also .
" Bigrie baate banade Raam "
Sung by Mukesh , slow Keherwa .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0ybP0_-Oyk
Seems to be in Lalit . One vivadi is sometimes used , namely komal ni .
" Shri Krishna Kasturi Tilakam"
sung by Pandit Jasraj
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGaNAJZzHlI
~~~~~~~~~~~ Raag Madhuvanti

Different sources give different authors of this famous shloka :
Bilvamangala Thakura , Leela Sukhar , Jayadev and others ... :|

" Data ek Ram "

by Shri Hari Om Sharan , Keherva taal .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CLEN6jcKbg

For the major part it seems to be in Sindhura , dwelving sometimes into Kafi and Piloo ( maybe also Hanskinkini and similar other Dhun ragas ? )

" Sumiran kar le "

by Anup Jalota ,
in Keherwa taal

The site soundofindia puts this bhajan in Tilak Kamod , but after listening to it I just hear too much Kalyan or Bihag anga with tivra Ma , and there isn´t any instance of the typical skipping of Ga in aroha movements ( SRmP ... ) and other vital Tilak Kamod components .
What fits Tilak Kamod more or less is the frequent descent into mandra saptak , stressing the low Ni and Pa .

At best , it´s a mixing of various ragas , or a specific raag close to Kalyan or Bihag ang with emphasis on the lower octave . Not to forget the frequent inclusion of komal ga as vivadi .

" Sakal Brij dhoom "

by Ashwini Bhide Deshpande , Keherwa taal ( sounds like a Keherwa prakar used often in thumris , that has an uneven " swing " = like mixing a double time Tishra jati beat into the normal tempo )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RSl2_c1kak

People say it is in Tilak Kamod , but here again there is so much tiver Ma , that it sounds like a raag from Kalyan thaat . Must be the influence of other romantic evening ragas ( in Shringar and/or bhakti rasa ) , where the tivra Ma is prominent .
And like the previous bhajan above , what would point to Tilak Kamod is the typical emphasis on mandra saptak ( `N`P`N S ) . And surprise surprise , lots of typical Tilak Kamod lakshanas are lacking ( P D m G in avroh , no high Sa coupled with Pa ... )
So for me at best it would be a mishra raag ( Mishra Tilak Kamod )

" Chalo mana Ganga Jamuna teer "

by Meerabai , sung by Pt Bhimsen Joshi , Bhajani taal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy-d_DJw2LQ

It is labeled everywhere as Tilak Kamod , but some characteristics make it sound more like Desh to me :
Lots of emphasis on komal ni , almost no activity in mandra saptak , and often nyas on Rishabh , no meends from S´ to Pa ...

Actualization ( I found this info while I was writing the paragraph above :roll: ) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpght38y5pE

2 commentators point out Desh as its raag .... :mrgreen:

Here are a few Bhajhans rendered by Bheem Sein Jaushee Ji in the respective Raags:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NpOq_cR7-s 'Raghoo Var Thumm' in the Raag Mishra Khamaaj...
2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAr6uQQ6eg4 'Mauray Ghar Aavauh' in the Raag Path Dheep...
3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ6QbL6-pSk 'Raam Jappeeyay Raam' is in two Raags: the Raag Chandhrakauns and the Raag Maalkauns...
4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpght38y5pE 'Challau Mann Ganga' is in Raag Thilak Kaamaudh...

On a different note-cant STAND the usage of the Harmonium in any way in the Indian Classical Music spectrum and its genres in totality...it's a shame Bheem Sein Jaushee Jee uses it as a solo accompaniment!
Thank you very much for contributing with these bhajans .

I have begun to listen to " Raghuvar tumko meri laaj " composed by Tulsidas , in Bhajani Taal . It is nice example of a kind of Mishra Khamaj where there is heavy emphasis on ma .

I will listen to the other bhajans with calmness during the next days , and also give an eye to the artworks in the videos .

This bhajan " More Ghar Aayo " is very nice !
It conveys also different moods , because of the ragas that are mixed in :
The sthayi is mostly in Bhimpalasi , some Antaras are in Kirwani .
I know that all the internet sites who are selling this Cd are labeling this song as Patdeep , but often songs and even classical Khyals are mislabelled ....
I álways prefer to listen by myself before labeling a song .
Anyway , it´s not far because one could say that Patdeep blongs to Bhimpalasi-anga and has the same shuddh Ni as Kirwani , but then it´s not entirley correct ... :)

By the way , I think the photo shown in the video shows Lord Vitthala ( Vithoba , Panduranga ) , the from of Lord Krishna that is venerated in Maharashtra ,
with his consort Rukmini ( ? ) .

There seem to be various ragas : Maybe Jhinjoti or a Khamaj-prakar for the chorus ( Sthayi ? ) , and Maand for the verses ( antaras ? ) , though I think there are some hints of other ragas also , maybe even Pahadi .
Hello Christianamr,

The Bhajhan 'Aarthee Kunj Bihaaree' by Haree Aum Sharan Ji is in the Raag Khamaaj/Khamaj!

(Bear in mind-i spell the Raag Names or South Asian words in English in the way they are pronounced in South Asia)...
