Kindly help identifying taal and raga for a Bhajan

Post by parmesh » Sun Dec 30, 2012 5:32 pm

I would sincerely appreciate help in identifying taal and raga for one of the most inspiring bhajans by late Shri Hari Om Sharan Ji - Yeh Garv Bhara Mastak. If possible, can anyone direct me to a common link where I can find similar information on other bhajans as well.

Here is the song

Thanks in advance

Very nice bhajan . I have known it for years .
The taal is Keherwa . The raag has a mixture of Bilawal and Kalyan thaats .
Often bhajans can not be pinned down on a single raga , because it can be very mixed .
Some possibilities that come to my mind are Bihag , Maru Bihag and Gaud Sarang .
I will come back later after having checked with some sources .

The site soundofindia has an index of ragas , where for every raag clicked on , you will find examples of film songs and sometimes bhajans .

I have also created a topic for checking out the ragas in bhajans :
Sorting out ragas in Bhajans
सहस्रनाम ततुलयम राम नाम वरानने |
Sahasranāma tat tulyam Rāma nāma Varānane .

Hello Parmesh,

This sweet Bhajhan by Hareem Aum Sharan Ji is in the Raag Bihaag and in the Thaal Kaiheirava...

(Bear in mind-i spell the Raag Names or South Asian words in English in the way they are pronounced in South Asia)...
