Sarod Tuning

Postby jignesh142 » Sat Oct 27, 2012 4:17 am

First of all i am admitting that i am not a sarod player but i enjoy the recordings played by the great masters of sarod so that i am asking this question
sarod is tuned to which note as Sa?
for example sitar is mostly tuned to C# like wise sarod is tuned to which note?

Hi, usually C is used as sa at least for Ali Akbar khan style, I think in some older recordings he has used B but some have said that that may also in part be shifted due to play back speed of the old recordings. I think Amjad Ali khan may tune as low as B flat sometimes( not sure about that). In some juglabandis with sitar C# is used but most sarod players will tell you they do not like the sound and feel of their instruments tuned that high.
