Can a Sarod player also play Rabab?

Since the Rabab is the ancestor of the Sarod, can a Sarod player also play the Rabab as efficiently? or are they totally different instruments?

They are very similar instruments in terms of technique, yes. However, there are some differences in terms of tuning (obviously) and the fact that on the rabab you have frets. Also, you have to figure out a way to transpose compositions for a four stringed instrument to a three string instrument. But yes, it is very easy to go from the sarod to the rabab. I acquired a rabab a year or so ago and have been playing it regularly using sarod techniques.
