Best Tanpura/Tabla App. or software/machine?

Post by sam-i-um » Tue Oct 30, 2012 10:18 pm

This has probably been asked before here but things change so often in the app./software world and is always a must needed tool for us all.

I thought in my question I would also include best software and machine for those of us who prefer laptop or simply a hardware stand alone unit. All are great.

Is there a best out there and one that includes tanpura and tabla accomp. together?

Thanks.

While not claiming to be an expert, I use itabla pro: http://upasani.org/home/iTablaPro.html

It has all the features you could want - you can tune it to your instrument or vice versa, it has loads of features and is easy to use. I downloaded it on my iphone and use a small portable loudspeaker, which is very convenient, so I can have two tanpura players, swarmandel and tabla backing me at any moment and anywhere! :D

Only downside is that it costs a bit, but personally I found it to be worth it.

I use it regularly. Trick is, you'll need an iPhone or iPad. If you have one, then spend the $25 and enjoy...its a great app with more features than I use. Otherwise, what system (android, windows desktop/laptop, mac OSX) do you want to run it on?

Hi,

I am not a hand-held user, but I enjoy practicing along with Swar Shala and I use Swarplug for my recording sessions. Swar Systems also has hand-held products that are a lot like their original software, so I'll bet they are worth looking into:

Does anybody have any experience with RiyazMaster?

The sound samples I have heard sound very realistic for both the tanpura and the Tabla

I have the older swarshala 2.0 (which I am quite happy with, and quite stable). I've downloaded the swarshala 3.0 (which you reference above) but for whatever reason the demo very frequently crashes on me. I've been tempted to buy it, but uncertain just how stable it is. Has this been a problem for you?

My opinion given without any warranties, expressed or implied, that it's even relevant. It would be folly to rely on my opinion without seeking more professional tabla advice. If you are suffering from a tabla condition, seek immediate attention.

I've been using Riyaz Studio ( www.riyazstudio.com ) for a few years now. Regular free updates and very nice sound and controls. Being primarily rudra vin now, I really appreciate the pakhawaj in addition to tabla.
