KARASEK - The Latest Production - all electric ! ! !

Post by Sitarfixer » Fri Feb 17, 2017 7:40 pm

Here is a complete refit of a Gregg Fosse Carbon Fiber sitar ( electric ). My client wanted to swap the autoharp pin tuners for more conventional gear tuners. I was given a free hand with no time limit. Here's the result ! There is now no resemblance to the original instrument. Note: Click on the tab for a slide show of the detail pics. The space bar will pause the display for each pic. Some might look at this one as a salute to Star Trek DS 9. It took about a year to complete and a lot of it was designed and redesigned as it was being built. Enjoy !

Here's a short clip of it on a test drive. Really gotta sit down and practice more.

The design is not my taste but I can see the great craftsmanship all over the place. Great eye for detail. I bet it plays like butter.

That's pretty cool looking, how did you anchor the sympathetic strings? Pics didn't show it. You might want to show Indrajit this, he likes this type of design....well done!

Glad you are all liking this beastie. The taraf strings ( regular barrel end guitar strings - .010 ) fix to the underside of the eyelet bracket in the neck. As there is no neck face, just a dished out carbon fiber tube, access to that bracket is easy. Tuning them is easy. Access to the 12 tuners behind the bridge is a clean shot from the back.

That is super cool! Does it get electric guitar type volume or is it louder? I really like the bridge on a bridge look.

Hi, Kalyan. Glad you like this beastie. With that toaster pickup, the volume is as loud as you would like. From a Marshall stack down to a little 5 watter, this one screams or whispers. The taraf strings under that pickup also sound just right in relation to the top strings.
