I'm guessing the badge has an "English" named street rather than an "Indian" name. That would put it somewhere in the late 50's - mid 60's. Best guess here.

Amherst street was renamed Raja Ram Mohan Roy Sarani in the late 60's so before 1970 would be a good guess for the sitar since it appears to have the Amherst street on the badge

It's before the mid 90's, probably 80's. He changed the font in his label once he started exporting to Buckingham Music (Peter Cutchey). I don't think he was old enough to have been making sitars in the 60's. Maybe the late 70's....he uses Mistrys for all the work, this looks like a later period. His best work was during the Buckingham years, all the craftsmen left for other work after he raised his prices $800 per instrument and lost all his business in one day. I was there last year and the cab driver called it Amherst street still so the address is ok, Mangla was ill though at the time, there was a single old craftsman who stayed on working on a very nice rudra veena but all the sitars I saw hanging were chalo sitars.

Thanks Lars. I think he was born in 1951. I don't known how old he was when he started making sitars. Here's are comparisons with a 2005-6 badge. The GP is extremely well-worn.
