Rikki Ram age?

Post by gillo » Fri Mar 24, 2017 5:13 am

Hi all, just want to check the approximate vintage of this sitar that I have. It has a thin tabli and is very light like older instruments and is responsive to play. Having received it secondhand I am not sure of its age, can anyone help with this?
Many thanks

This "Gold Medal" badge first appeared in 1971.

Hey thanks Sitarfixer, would the brass langot make it a bit older than that?

Nope ! Everything looks stock for early 70's Rikhi Ram. They started using aluminum rod stock for the taraf string loops around that time. Good idea although I like the brass rod material I use better. I imagine this one sounds and plays just fine.

Great info thanks! It plays very nicely, loud and bright, almost effortless.
