Thank you, Suvir!
Everytime I hear/watch one of your new video uploads, I like it more
than the last one. I really hope to be able to attend one of your
live performances someday.

I was about to say the same thing. I thought your alaap was particularly sweet and quite moving

Greeting to Povster, Westsea, Nick B, Cabaray and every one else.

I would be releasing a series of recordings made in a professional studio by next year end. I would like to get some feed back on the choice of ragas.

Regards,

Suvir

As always, another wonderful rendering from Suvir! I listen to them quite frequently. I really like your recent Patdeep, as well as the Bilawal you shared here. I also really like your Jaijaiwanti (the one with the golden Vina), and a gat in raga Poorvi. As for Chandrakauns, povster, there is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSzgwlXCSnM, which is quite lovely. There is also an older one of raga Chandrakauns on Surbahar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvKzHJ6fFLE

But probably my favorite of Suvirji's is a rendering of raga Puriya Kaylan, that I cannot seem to find on youtube anymore.

My pick for a new video, or a CD is Marwa; I really like its use of dissonance, and it doesn't seem to get rendered much.

That or a new Multani. There IS a Multani video out there, but the mic-ing and background noise interfere. I would love a good sound quality version of it, as it is my favorite raga.

Thanks nastika

The youtube Chandrakauns says it is a "variant" but am not sure what variant.

Regardless, Suvir is talking about a studio recording. It means the talking, noise etc. is not there. I would love to hear either Chandrakauns or Jogkauns under these conditions!

Yes, definitely; a clean, studio take would be wonderful. I believe the 'variant' may be to incorporate Re on the descent. That is what it says on the Surb clip I linked, and I'm just assuming its the same.

Greeting for the new year to all. I was away on a vacation to Goa and could not access the regular internet.

Thanks for the feedback povster. JogKauns would be a good raga. Before going on vacation I recorded an 80 minute Alaap,Jod, Jhala in Kaunsi-Kanada (could not record pakhawaj because of serious sound leakages in the same chamber). I would complete the Pakhawaj part soon. So, Kaunsi Kanada is on the list. I was thinking about Jog Kauns but I thought Kaunsi Kanada would be more challenging and fulfilling.

Povster, I played a 'Prakaar' (or a Variant) of Chandrakauns which is a part of the Dagar Repertoire and employes Re and Pa while descending. I would certainly take up the regular Chandrakauns one of these days.

I had some of these Ragas on my mind -

1. Yaman -Kalyan
2. Khem Kalyan
3. Hem Kalyan
4. Marwa
5. Hanskinkini
6. Nat Kamod

Do let me know what would be good choices for professional releases.

Suvir,

Kaunhsi Kannada sounds great. I have tremendous fondness for the Kannada and "kauns" type ragas.

On the list you made above you included another great favorite: Marwa.

I don't know if this is traditionally played on a Rudra Vina, but I have recently been listening to Sarwar Hussain on the Sarangi playing Raga Shree and it struck me that it could sound really nice on the been too.

Just a thought to add to the list!
