New Been Born

Postby Nick B » Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:14 pm

Dear all

Inspired by Gary's bamboo been, I too commissioned Altab to build me one. Thinking it would take 6 months to a year to make, I was pleasantly surprised when yesterday, only 3 months later, two large boxes arrived at my house. I unpacked them to reveal a truly gorgeous instrument, stunning to look at and sounds amazing.

I can honestly say that the whole process has been incredibly easy and stress free. Maqsood, who manages the business side for Altab, has always been very clear and transparent on every step of the process and very punctual in responding to my invariably stupid questions.

These guys are real pros and I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone thinking of buying a Rudra Vina. The quality of the work is amazing - take a look at the attached photos.....

I now just need to learn how to play it.....!

I know that I will never do it justice, not without at least 20-30 years of practice, but I also feel good that my dollars are helping to preserve these skills.

So a BIG thank you to Altab, Maqsood and Gary (without whom I would not have taken the plunge).

Nick

I haven't checked into the forums for a while and lo and behold a new veena is born. Congratulations Nick. Is just me or does it seem there is a little uptick in the rudra veena population. If this keeps up we might be able to take them off the endangered species list. Once again good luck with your new veena, Nick

Yeah, there has definitely been an uptick in the vin population. It is wonderful to see!

While sitar and surbahar are more than a lifetime's worth of study for me, I still get a pang of curiousity every now and then...mind giving a general figure of what it cost to procure? Maybe someday...

Beautiful instrument you've got there!
