RIP Ust. Zia Fariddudin Dagar

I just received the sad news of the passing of Ust. Z.F. Dagar. I'm totally bummed... 3 months ago he was the focus of the festival we organised; his performance was stunning.

I recall him at the Dhrupad Mela in Varanasi a few years back. His voice had gone but you could still feel his power.

Such a sad note for music. I have always held Ustad Z. F. Dagar to be the living pinnacle of Dhrupad. In my book, there's no other singer around as inventive, daring, and mindblowingly deep as he. Thankfully we have his recordings. I'm a huge huge fan.

Recently had the privilege of seeing his disciple Uday Bhawalkar, who is on a performance tour of the US currently. Highly, highly recommended. His artistry was phenomenal, and his devotion was apparent.

I have the strong desire to cry right now...ZF Dagar was a very amazing "dhrupad" maestro. RIP Ustad ZF Dagar saheb.
