Somthings ratteling in the gourd of my sitar

Post by soulcakesimon » Fri Dec 27, 2013 3:06 am

Hello! I have been studying sitar for a few years now, I Bought an Intermediate sitar from india a while back, from day one I noticed somthing rattleing inside the gourd, its sounds like a bunch of wood chips, not just a single item. There are no cracks on the sitar. It hasent effected the sound, but it was kind of peculiar. It Is and ustad viliyat kahn style, 7 main, 13 tarbs.
Thanks you very much for your time and knoledge! :)

Perfectly normal and absolutely nothing to worry about. Just bits of dried gourd that flakes off over time and maybe even some wood bits and gourd chips left from when it was first made. It is considered part and parcel of a sitar.

If you remove a main peg & carefully shake the sitar, I SAID CAREFULLY LOL!!! upside down, these bits often fall out of the peg hole.
