Beginner DVD

Postby Koloboch » Sun Oct 05, 2014 12:37 am

Hi Everyone, I finally decided to go for it and have just gotten my first sitar, and just got it tuned up. I've been religiously watching everything I can on youtube but I only ever get bits and pieces of the techniques, etc. I really want to start off doing things correctly, so could anybody point me to a good DVD for the absolute beginner?

I found a lot of general information about sitars and a nice sargam notation exercise on the following:

The following DVD's, while expensive, sure saved a lot of time searching on youtube and other sites for the sitar into and practice exercises: http://batish.com/ashwin/: These DVDs are near the bottom of the page.

So, Bob, what kind of sitar did you end up with, then?

I have a Radha Krishna Sharna #1. Purchased from the Ali Akbar College of Music. Wish I lived near-by and had the money to attend the AACM. What sitar do you have?
