Replacing gatta

Post by Toshi » Thu Feb 18, 2016 10:45 am

Tabla newbie here
I got a pair of tablas online, but one of the gatta fell off during shipping. I'm obviously going to reapply it, but I'm not sure which method to use. Should I:
Remove all of the gatta/pegs like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmJ6y38071Q

or simply loosen up the baddhi/strings like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjP5Tp3dkX8

or do something else?
The simplest solution is the best in my case, since I'm not experienced.
Any help is appreciated!

Just slip it back in and don't worry about it.

I tried that, but it's just too tight.

It is supposed to be tight. That is the purpose.

I mean it's literally too tight to just slip it in. I need to loosen up the baddhi first.

Trust me. You do not want to loosen it. Yes it is tight. It is supposed to be tight. Just put it back in.

I almost gave up, but in the end I got it. Thank you so much!
