Strange sound on one of the keys of my Harmonium

Postby Starless » Mon Jul 11, 2011 12:43 pm

Hi!

Recently, my harmonium started to make a strange sound sometimes when i press one of the C keys. IT seems like some metal piece is lose and it's vibrating inside the harmonium. It is not form the metal piece that keeps pressure on the wood of the keys, it must be some piece inside the harmonium. I can make a video of the sound so that you can understand better what i'm saying, if you think you can help me.

Thank you,

Inês

Hi, sounds like a buzzing reed, could have dirt in it or metal touching the edge of the reed frame. Sometimes when they change climates the shrinking or expansion of the wood will cause this. A whole lot of things could be happening but not really a big deal and most problems are fixable, part of owning a harmonium.
I would highly suggest you get the Harmonium Handbook, I carry it here (at the bottom of the page): http://raincitymusic.com/sitar%20tabla%20books.htm
It's a common book and easy to find on the net as well, it'll help you get to know your instrument though.
