I am taking some classes in carnatic music at university since I didn't know much about it, and I asked my instructor about the OP's question. He said that there are plenty of compositions in mayamalavagoula, but it's not a raga that is used as a main performance piece. It may definitely be performed, but it's rarely used as the main focus of a performance.
