Bow Tension (was "rosin (a.k.a. Biroza, Biroja, Baroza)")

Postby chanders » Thu Nov 05, 2009 5:51 pm

Really good information here. My sarangi bow has lost a lot of tension and I find it hard to play without touching the other string.

Is there an easy way to restring my bow? I am very new to this and I am afraid of loosening the base and unable to get it back to the correct tension.

Steps in restringing from the guys who have done it in the past would be great!

The proper way is to unwrap the string which holds the frog to the bow, then slide the frog further back to increase the tension, then re-tie the frog to the bow.

However there is a "quick-fix" which is much easier. Simply take some paper and repeatedly fold it until you have a block which is about 1cm x 1 cm and about 4 mm in thickness. Take this block of folded paper and shove it between the hair and the frog. This will raise the hair a bit off the frog and increase the tension.

Peace

Thanks much David! I'll give this a go when I get home.
