Rosin not sticking to bow

Postby vnandhra » Fri Dec 06, 2013 5:43 pm

Hello fellow artists.

I recently bought a black horse hair bow from india.
It is brand new. However, when I apply rosin, it does not stick to the hair.
Does anyone know what the issue might be?

Kind regards,

Have you tried different grades of rosin?

You can try wiping the horsehair with naphtha (lighter fluid) soaked in a tissue, it will degrease it, and rosin should stick. Also a good trick to try on your strings if they are are slippery, or with new strings.

This is usually due to dirty sticky hairs or may be first time rosin is not properly applied. I prefer simple soap solution and rub the wet soaped hairs between thumb & fingers to get rid of the debris or stickiness. do it several times & finally with simple water. Allow it to dry. Then apply rosin till it enters into considerable hair depth. This is totally risk free procedure. Only care to be taken is to avoid water entering into the stick/frog where hairs are passing . Any type of the rosin usually works for me. Also applying the rosin has a specific technique.
