Viola?

Has anyone ever heard of anyone playing Hindustani classical on viola? Sure, tons of violin, but I think viola is wonderfully suited for it. I've seen one video of someone playing carnatic viola. But that's about it.

Dear, thank you for posting this concern. I am interested in this as well as I will be trying to learn to play like this also.
If you have any information to share it would be much appreciated. I do not know what kind of violin to purchase or what strings to use.
